Description:
As the strings are placed in this manner, the acoustic bass pickups should be centered between the frets. Using a flexible tape measure, take note of the distance between the nut and the sound hole. This is the distance where the strings are connected to the pickup. Once you have the distance, you can measure the distance between the acoustic strings and the pickup, which will be about the same.
Measure the distance between the pickup and the sound hole. If you are comfortable enough, go ahead and connect the pickup to the guitar's wiring by its cord. This is usually done with two wires, one white and one black.
Turn the pickup on and play along with the strings. When the strings are out of the way, simply open the pickguard and look down at the strings, and try placing the pickup there. You will see if it is positioned properly.
Make sure you are able to see the strings when you are positioning the acoustic bass pickups. Then, look into the middle of the bass and see if the pickup is looking in the right place. Again, if you are comfortable enough, turn the pickup on and try to play the strings. If it is positioned properly, you will be able to see both strings clearly.
For small spaces, it may be helpful to have a small measuring tape in a small space. If the strings are hard to see, or if you have a fretless bass, the position of the pickup may not be well-placed. Acoustic bass pickups for guitar are easy to use. Learn how to do them properly, and you will soon be playing with confidence.
